Nga Chuong Cafe in Pekan Sibu is a straightforward spot where the focus remains firmly on the food, especially classic local dishes like Hokkien Mee and Prawn Noodle. Unlike cafes that might emphasize ambiance or artisan coffee, this place draws people in with its hearty servings and familiar flavors.

The atmosphere is unpretentious and casual, geared more toward a quick, satisfying meal than lingering over drinks or working on a laptop. It’s common to see regulars who come specifically for their rice or noodle bowls, settling in for a no-frills dining experience. Even when the shop isn’t busy, expect some wait time which hints at the care that goes into each plate rather than rushed service.

Hokkien Mee here gets particular attention from locals and visitors alike — the noodles are cooked just right, with a mix of chicken, fish balls, squid, and a sprinkling of crispy pork lard that adds texture and depth. For those looking to pair their meal with a local drink, a cup of Teh C (a local style of tea with evaporated milk) complements the savory flavors well.

This cafe suits anyone craving a familiar Sarawak comfort dish in a simple setting. Visit during meal times when the food is freshest and the buzz of fellow diners adds to the straightforward charm of this everyday food destination in Sibu.

Went out to try the supposedly best hokkien mee at Sibu. I have never eaten hokkien mee before so I don't really know if this is what the best hokkien supposed to taste like haha. The noodle is well cooked, not soggy. With chicken, fish balls, a bit of squid topped with crispy pork lard. The waiting time can be length eventhough not many customers.
